Installing the Root and Intermediate Certificate on IIS 5.x / 6.x


To install the certificate

  1. Click the "Start" button, select "Run", type mmc and select "OK".
  2. Click on "File" and select "Add / Remove Snap in".
  3. Select "Add".
  4. Select the certificates from the "Add standalone snap-in" field and click "Add".
  5. Select "Computer Account" (NOTE: This step is very important). You will need to select "Computer Account" and not another account) and click "Next".
  6. Select "Local Computer" and select "Finish".
  7. Close the snap-in box, click "OK" in the "Add/Remove Snap In". Return to the MMC.

To install the root certificate

  1. Right-click "Trusted Root Certification Authorities", select "All Tasks", and then select "Import".

  3. Locate the root certificate and click "Next". When the wizard is complete, click "Finish".

To install the Intermediate Certificate

  1. Right-click "Intermediate Certification Authorities", select "All Tasks", select "Import".
  2. Run the Import Wizard again, but this time select the Intermediate Certificate when prompted to select the certificate. (Note: Perform this step for all intermediate certificates that you have received.)

Important:

  • Make sure that the root certificate appears under Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
  • Make sure that the Intermediate Certificate appears under Intermediate Certification Authorities.
