Can I use EuropeanNS as a master or slave name server?

Master and slave name servers are terms used in connection with the Domain Name System (DNS), a system that translates human-friendly domain names into numerical IP addresses used by computers on the Internet.

  • Master name server
    • The master name server is the primary server on which the original and authoritative DNS records for a domain are stored.
    • It is responsible for processing changes to the domain's DNS records. For example, if a new website is created or an IP address is changed, this is usually done on the master name server.
  • Slave name server
    • The slave name server (also known as the secondary server) is a copy of the master name server.
    • It regularly synchronizes with the master name server to ensure that its data is up to date. This synchronization takes place via so-called zone transfer.
    •  The slave name server is able to answer queries for DNS information even if the master name server is not available. This increases the reliability of the DNS.

The use of master and slave name servers helps to ensure the reliability and redundancy of the DNS. For example, if the master name server is unavailable due to problems, the slave name server can continue to process DNS queries as it has a copy of the master server's data. The use of master and slave name servers also contributes to load balancing and faster processing of queries. Users are always served by the name server that is geographically closest to them. This results in lower latency when processing requests and therefore shorter response times.
