With EuropeanMX you are able to block very large amounts of malware. Nevertheless, it can unfortunately happen that all anti-virus and anti-spam protection is bypassed by new malware campaigns and a message is delivered. In order to prevent this, we strongly recommend that you use the default option "Block attachments with hidden executables". This option is very effective against so-called zero-day malware. Enabling this feature will reject messages with executable files within a compressed archive (.zip,.rar., etc.) and move them to quarantine.
This option only affects messages that contain an executable file in a compressed archive in the attachment. The inspection is carried out in 3 levels deep.
Log into the filter's admin panel and select "Attachmend restrictions" in the left menu under "Incoming - Protection settings". Scroll down to the restriction options and check the option "Block attachments with hidden executables".
In the earlier described view you also have the possibility to block messages with certain file extensions. At the top of the page you will find a list of file extensions that are already blocked by the filter by default. If you want to block an additional file extension, simply enter the extension under "Add new extension". If you no longer wish to block a file extension, select it in the list and then select "Remove selected".
Spammers often try to bypass the spam filter with password-protected archives in order to deliver the malware to the recipient. The corresponding password is then usually contained in the message text and is thus transmitted to the recipient. You can prevent such messages by activating the option "Block password-protected archive attachments".
Yes, but this option is not enabled by default. Activating the option "Message link size limit" automatically checks the target of a link whose file extension has been entered in the list "Scanned link extensions". With the limit you determine the maximum file size that can be downloaded and should then be checked by our virus scanner. This is extremely helpful when receiving direct links to infected files in emails.
Generally a zip file is not downloaded. By activating the file extension you allow our system to download the zip file and check it with our virus engines.
