What does quarantine mean and how can I access it?

You have the option of accessing your domain's quarantine either via IMAP or via the web interface. Please note that access to the quarantine is only optional and normally not mandatory. Alternatively, you can also use the protection reports or email scout reports to check quarantined messages and release them if necessary. You can find further information in our FAQ articles "How can I be informed about blocked, incoming messages?" and "How can I create my own Email Scout reports and have them sent to me?".

Emails that have been rejected with a 5xx error at SMTP level are moved to quarantine. The sender is informed of the rejection by default with a notification (can also be deactivated via "Incoming - Protection settings" > "Filter settings"). Messages that are only temporarily rejected at SMTP level are not included in the quarantine and are delivered again by correctly configured sender servers. Messages that have been moved to quarantine are available to you for up to 14 days.

Access via Admin-Panel (Browser)

From the Admin Panel, you can either delete messages detected as spam from quarantine, block the sender, or release and train the message. In order to access from the Admin Panel, go to "Incoming" > "Spam quarantine".

If a message has been unintentionally blocked, you can release and train it at this point, which will trigger the message to be sent to the original recipient. In addition, a report of the incorrect classification is sent to our system along with a copy of the message to train our filter and improve spam detection.

Access via IMAP (Mailclient)

The quarantine system is supported by an IMAP backend. The backend can be accessed with the administrator account, via the domain (domain name) and via the recipient address. Customers can connect to the quarantine using the URL "quarantine.europeanmx.eu". You can also easily release certain messages in bulk via IMAP. You can find more information on setting up the quarantine in your email client in our FAQ article "How do I have to configure my mail client (Thunderbird, Outlook) to access the quarantine via IMAP?".

The following folders are available in the IMAP account:

  • Caught
All incoming messages that have been quarantined can be found in this folder. It is not necessary to report the messages as spam again, because they are already marked as spam. These messages are automatically removed.
  • Caught (outgoing)

All outgoing messages that have been quarantined can be found in this folder (optional). It is not necessary to report the messages as spam again because they have already been marked as spam. These messages are automatically removed.
  • Training requested
This is only relevant if a special feature has been enabled via the Software API or to store a copy of an unsafe message in this folder.
  • Release & Train
This is a folder that can only be written to (cannot be accessed via a mail client). E-mails that have been copied from the folder "Caught" by drag&drop are sent to the recipient and reported to our central system due to the incorrect classification.
  • Release
This is a folder that can only be written to (cannot be accessed via a mail client). Messages copied from the folder "Caught" by drag and drop are only delivered to the recipient.
  • No Spam
This is a folder that can only be written to (cannot be accessed via a mail client). E-mails that are copied from the folder "Caught" or "Training Requested" by drag&drop are reported to our central system due to the incorrect classification. The message will not be delivered to the recipient!
  • Spam
This is a folder that can only be written to (cannot be accessed via a mail client). E-mails that are copied to this folder by drag and drop are reported as spam to our central system (message is not delivered to the recipient). This is useful for reporting spam messages that have not been blocked correctly directly from the mail client to our system.
